Non-Uniform Sampling Methods for MRI

چکیده

Simple Cartesian scans, which collect Fourier transform data on a uniformly-spaced grid in the frequency domain, are by far the most common in MRI. But non-Cartesian trajectories such as spirals and radial scans have become popular for their speed and for other benefits, like making motion-correction easier [12]. A major problem in such scans, however, is reconstructing from nonuniform data, which cannot be performed by a standard fast Fourier transform (FFT) as in the Cartesian case. Here, we briefly describe the most common reconstruction methods and the non-uniform fast Fourier transform (NFFT) needed to complete the computations quickly. We then give an overview of several current methods for choosing a density compensation function (DCF) and suggest some possible improvements.

Non-uniformity of Clinical Head, Head and Neck, and Body Coils in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Introduction Signal intensity uniformity in a magnetic resonance (MR) image indicates how well the MR imaging (MRI) system represents an object. One of the major sources of image non-uniformity in high-field MRI scanners is inhomogeneity of radio-frequency coil. The aim of this study was to investigate non-uniformity in head, head and neck, and body coils and compare the obtained results to det...

Inverse nonequispaced FFT - Applications in MRI and numerical Stability

In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), methods that use a non-Cartesian, e.g. spiral, grid in k-space are becoming increasingly important. This talk focuses on a recently proposed implicit discretisation scheme which generalises the standard approach based on gridding. While the latter succeeds for sufficiently uniform sampling sets and accurate estimated density compensation weights, the implici...

Curvelet-Based Sampling for Accurate and Efficient Multi-Modal Image Registration

We present a new non-uniform adaptive sampling method for the estimation of mutual information in multi-modal image registration. The method uses the Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform to identify regions along anatomical curves on which the mutual information is computed. Its main advantages of over other non-uniform sampling schemes are that it captures the most informative regions, that it is ...

Non-gridded Poisson Disk Sampling for Compressed Sensing Magnetic Resonance Image Reconstruction

Compressed sensing (CS) methods can be used to reconstruct MRI signals from highly undersampled data [1]. Recent studies have shown that selecting gridded samples using a Poisson disk sampling pattern yields improved reconstructions over the traditional uniform random sampling of a Cartesian grid [2]. We extend this work by evaluating the effects of Poisson disk sampling of a continuous k-space...

SPECTRAL SAMPLING AND DISCONTINUITY DETECTIONMETHODS WITH APPLICATION TO MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING by

Typical implementations of Fourier methods demand acquisition and evaluation of input and output data on a Cartesian grid. This presents a problem in applications such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), where non-Cartesian input measurements are available. The reconstruction of support-limited functions from such non-Cartesian spectral data constitutes the subject matter of this thesis. A sur...
